Getting The Job Done for NMUSD

It will be busy campaign season and if anyone asks for a lawn sign and why you support Ersoylu for re-election, here are some facts.


Dr. Ersoylu is an independent thinker with over 20 years of professional experience supporting children and families. PhD from UC Irvine, and a BS in Resource Economics from University of New Hampshire. Business owner, using data, research and policy expertise to help nonprofits and government agencies have more impactful programs.


Leah has a record of service to children and families.

  • As a parent of a teen, in touch with the issues facing kids today.

  • Helped to lead the recent positive transformation at the District in recent years.

  • Advocate for Parent Rights & Involvement. Passed Parental Rights & Responsibilities Policy


Academic Success:

  • Chronic Absences declined from 21% to 12%.

  • Increased electives and extracurricular options at TeWinkle.

  • Estancia was awarded 2024 California Distinguished School Award.

  • Increased CTE Pathways.

  • Got District to pay for Science Camp so all sites have access – regardless of site funds.

  • Updated reading curriculum so that we have increased literacy and reading scores.

  • We have streamlined math curriculum for k-12 so that it is now aligned and should impact scores soon.

  • Test scores have rebounded – learning loss is in the rearview mirror.

  • Implemented Transitional Kindergarten district wide.

  • We have expanded learning programs and supports to keep students engaged before and after school.


Keeping Kids Safe:

  • Ensure Narcan/naloxone is available at all school sites.

  • Making sure each school site has Counselor.

  • Increased # of campus safety officers/SROs on campuses.

  • Increased security technology and cameras on campuses.

  • Increased mental health support programs on campuses.

  • Authored the cannabis resolution (passed unanimously); a letter urging the City Council to curb the number of ‘pot shops’ and use tax revenue for youth programs.

  • Passed cell phone policy.

  • E-bike safety measures were implemented.

  • Updated Safety Plans at all school sites.

  • Partnered with parents to provide parent education series on issues ranging from AI to online safety, cyber security and online bullying and parental controls.

  • Go-Guardian app for parents to be able to put safety limits on District-issued Chromebooks.

  • Advocated for anti-bullying and anti-hate programs at school sites.


Updating Facilities/ Infrastructure:

  • Building Estancia Theater within budget, while also preserving the historic Estancia Lawn, a 1-acre beloved green space.

  • Approved the first-ever NMUSD Facilities Master Plan, making infrastructure spending decisions more proactive to avoid wasteful spending.

  • Advocated for shade structures that allow for sun-safety for our kids.

  • In process of renovating all the Multi-Purpose Rooms District-wide.

  • Partner with local organizations to conduct beautification and community projects on our campuses.



Financial Steward:

  • Ensured NMUSD remains fiscally strong with a Moody’s AAA bond rating.

  • Our reserves exceed state recommendations.
